Who Owns William Hill?

William Hill is one of the industry's most reputable bookmakers, and there are several reasons for this. Formed in 1934, it has been at the forefront of the market and was one of the first to tackle online betting, which it has done very successfully. Since being taken over by Evoke plc in 2022, the bookmaker has only continued to rise, much to the delight of the new owners.

Evoke plc does have other bookmakers under its umbrella, but unfortunately, they are not at the same level as their crown jewel. In any case, we will go through these below and explain why they aren't worth signing up for. In addition, we will take a look at some good William Hill alternatives that UK punters should consider.

My Thoughts on William Hill

As bookmakers go, William Hill is one of my favourites. It impresses on multiple fronts, and it has truly gotten better with time. Across the website and the app, the betting experience is enjoyable and accessible. Furthermore, a great sportsbook is offered, which only bolsters William Hill's arsenal.

When looking for a 'regular' bookmaker to use, I feel that William Hill has everything needed to be the main port of call so to speak, but this has probably been the case since before Evoke plc became the owner of the bookmaker.

Review of the William Hill Sister Sites

Below, we outline the key features of William Hill's sister sites and what makes them different from the main site.

888 Sports

Whilst 888Sports is definitely a known bookmaker, it is not as reputable as its sister site and there is good reason for this. In our experience of using the website, it was not as smooth as William Hill's.

This was, unfortunately, not the only disparity between the two bookmakers. The promotions on offer at 888Sports were not at the same level of generosity, and different areas were not easily accessible, which is rather disappointing.

Mr Green

With 888Sports, there is certainly a gap. However, between William Hill and Mr Green, there are miles. Firstly, there is no sportsbook available for UK customers, which is already a massive downside considering how big of a factor this is for most customers.

However, the casino area of the bookmaker is not levels ahead of William Hill's - as may be expected for a bookmaker with no sportsbook - so there are seemingly no upsides to joining.

Review of William Hill Alternative Sites

Below, we take a look at the best alternatives to William Hill in the UK, picking three bookies that we really like.

bet365

Bet365

For UK customers, there are few bookies, if any, seen as better than Bet365. The bookmaker excels in several departments, from a fantastic bet £10 and get £30 offer and a great range of markets of the sportsbook.

Bet365 app

Furthermore, the experience when using the site or app of the bookmaker is very good, the interface is very nice and was recently updated, which is a positive thing for multiple reasons. Not to mention that streaming, as for some sports on William Hill, is widely available.

Lottoland

Lottoland

If customers are looking for a bookmaker with a strong casino platform then they should look no further than Lottoland. Whilst it does not have the sportsbook to compete with William Hill, it certainly competes thanks to the casino and lottery areas.

Lottoland boasts a wide variety of slots, table and lottery games, and with the lowest deposit and withdrawal amount that we have seen for a betting site, it is certainly worth signing up. Indeed, you can deposit just £1 on the site and that even goes for Apple Pay.

Betfred

Betfred

Betfred offers another viable alternative to William Hill. It serves as another duo bookmaker, where the sports and casino areas are as good as each other, which is a huge strength for Betfred.

Furthermore, there are some fantastic sign-up offers available for new customers, and with it being rated highly in our review, we would recommend signing up if you do not have an account already.
