FanTeam UK Review (2024)

Originally known as WooFBet, Fanteam has been around for about eight years if you count the time before it got the new name. It was launched in 2013 but rebranded to Fanteam in the summer of 2015. It is now the best in daily fantasy sports (DFS) in Europe.

Although the founders are from Norway, Fanteam's headquarters are in Stockholm, Sweden. It is part of the Scout Gaming Group, a Nasdaq OMX Stockholm company that has over 80 employees as of this writing.

Fanteam initially offered fantasy tournaments in the UEFA Champions League and English Premier League. The rebranding came with rapid growth and the inclusion of more markets. The company also runs an entire sportsbook where you can bet on real football and other popular sports.

The bookie operates under several gambling authorities’ regulations. It is licenced by the UKGC and adheres to the UK Gambling Commission as well as the Malta Gaming Authority, which allows it to operate both in the UK and internationally. However, the service provider has at least 39 restricted countries, including the US and its territories, military bases, and other dependencies.

Fanteam Sportsbook Review

Fanteam rules in DFS, but the real sportsbook is a bit limited. It lacks some common games among punters, such as snooker, tennis, golf, greyhounds, horse racing, and boxing. However, it has seven popular sports and games, including:

  • Football
  • MMA
  • American football
  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • Tennis
  • CS: GO

If you love football (soccer), Fanteam features at least 20 leagues, including Premier League, La Liga, EFL, UFC, World Cup Qualifiers, Serie A, Bulgaria Parva Liga, UEFA, Germany Football League, Allsvenskan, and others. Football has far more tournaments than what they have in the other sports.

For example, there is only KHL for hockey. Basketball has the NBA, Spanish basketball, and Stoiximan Basket League. There is also DreamHack Open November for CS: GO fans and WTA Finals for the tennis lover. Moreover, American football's NFL is listed.

Betting Markets

Fanteam offers more than 250 different competitions across the seven sports it provides. It is less than what you would find on some of the UK's leading bookies, such as Bet365. However, the average sports fan may still be able to find all they would ever need.

In football, you can expect over 100 different betting options in big competitions such as the Champions League. Interestingly, the site also allows punters the chance to wager on fantasy matchups. In this case, the match is real, but you wager and collect points with the same system as in fantasy tournaments. It allows you to choose between different outcomes such as a team to win the match, over/ under, player fantasy points, and Duels.

For instance, if Manchester City were playing, you could bet on whether Jack Grealish or Phil Foden will have the most fantasy points for the match. The bookie also lets you pick from cross-game fantasy matchups using players from different matches.

Betting Margins

Fanteam's betting odds and margins fall in line with the rest of the bookies in the industry. They seem to have an average of about 5% betting margins. For Leicester vs. Chelsea Premier League game on 13 Nov, for example, the margin was 5.22%. Argentina vs. Brazil in the World Cup Qualifiers had 6.13%, while Barcelona vs. Espanyol in La Liga had 5.36%.

According to our calculations, the margins were higher in hockey, coming in at about 8%. The NFL games had averages of just above 7%. MMA's trend was something between what they had in hockey and the NFL.

Welcome Bonus

Fanteams's sign-up process is fairly straightforward, involving a brief registration form. Then, they will offer you a £20 risk-free bet as a new player. You will need to deposit a minimum of £20 and place a bet with it at odds of 2.0 (1/1) or more.

If you win on your first bet, you will have to wager £20 on a game with the same odds again to convert the £20 bonus into cash. You get your winnings, but the bonus remains locked.

Live Streaming and in-Play Betting

Fanteam does not have a live streaming feature, although it gives punters access to the progress of ongoing games. Therefore, you can still wager on in-play matches. The in-play games can be found under the "live results" section once you open the site. Under it are live matches in football, hockey, basketball, CS: GO, and the other sports listed.

Alternatively, you can go to your favourite sports using the filters, under which you will find a red button labelled "live." clicking it allows you to see all the live matches on which to place a bet.

Promotions

Fanteam did not seem to have any promotions at the time of writing. Apart from the welcome bonus, there is nothing else in the traditional sportsbook section. However, they have a bunch of interesting promotions in the DFS section that we will cover next.

Fanteam Fantasy Sports

You may already know by now that Fanteam has a major emphasis on DFS. The likes of fantasy football and other sports are more readily available and appealing than what you will interact with within the regular sportsbook.

Fantasy Sports is a virtual skill-based game where punters are allowed to build teams. You can include your favourite players or the ones you think will contribute the most to your win. The players receive a score based on how they excel on the playground, much like what goes on in FPL.

Your rewards increase with your team's score in the fantasy tournaments that you enter. Fanteam's DFS follows a pool betting approach. The biggest prize can go up to £1 million.

Most of the tournaments only last a single day, but some go on over the weekend. Other tournaments run throughout the season, which punters can find very engaging and entertaining.

Another great thing about fantasy sports is that you are competing against other users, not the house. The house has no edge, so you could say it is a fair game. Their source of revenue here is much like the way poker works. There is no monthly fee, but they charge a 10% rake.

Tournaments

After signing up, you can access tournaments in the lobby area. You will find a collection of sports and other competitions to choose from, including:

  • Football (soccer)
  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • CS: GO
  • Cricket
  • League of Legends
  • MMA
  • DOTA 2
  • Horse Racing
  • Tennis
  • Baseball
  • Handball
  • Eurovision
  • Motorsports

The filter button shows exactly how many tournaments you can access for each category. Football, for example, had 104 tournaments at the time of writing. American football had 104, CS: GO had 39, and there were 29 for cricket.

Again, much like online poker, each tournament has a unique buy-in prize. You will find stakes available that suit most budgets, beginning at the low of £2 and going upwards of £200.

The fun begins with picking your team. For example, if you went for football, you pick your team’s midfielders, defenders, strikers, and goalkeepers. They have all the popular players listed, including the likes of Harry Kane, Bruno Fernandes, Mo Salah, and Raheem Sterling, among others.

However, you can't just pick anyone. The formation of your team will depend on your budget. Among the popular tournaments you can access are:

  • Official Tournaments: These are created by the Fanteam bookie and have pre-set rules and guaranteed prize pools. Among the interesting products in Fanteam's official tournaments is the Weekly Monster, which changes after each game week and comes with a range of unique guaranteed prize pool levels.
  • Draft 'n' go: gives punters a chance to put their fantasy teams up against another punter in a one-on-one battle. It comes with different tables, each with unique entry fees.
  • User-Created Tournaments: allows a group of DFS lovers to come together and create a tournament with their own rules. Anyone can join if they are comfortable with the rules of the tournament. The winner gets bragging rights and, of course, a cash reward.

Prediction Game

For a feel of the traditional style betting sportsbook, Fanteam offers a "prediction game" section under the DFS category. Here you can predict the scores of fantasy football matches.

Pick 'em Jackpot

Fanteam added the Pick 'em Jackpot game to its sportsbook towards the end of 2020. If you are up for the challenge, you will have to predict the results of about 13 matches. You will be wagering on home victory, a draw, or away victory. The game also lets you predict a jackpot trigger match score, which will reward you with a prize if gotten right.

There is still a prize if you miss your mark but predict 10 of the matches correctly. The amount you win will increase with each additional correct outcome after the ten matches until you hit the jackpot.

The prize for the jackpot starts at £100,000. However, in a traditional pools-style fashion, Fanteam increases the prize each time the previous round is not won.

Player Matchups (Duels)

There are more rewards to be claimed on Fanteam through the 'Player Matchups' challenges. Here, Fanteam provides a list of matchups, and all you have to do is select the player you think will win the individual matchup.

Let's say Manchester United were to face Manchester City. You would be able to select who scores the most points between IIkay Gündogan and Paul Pogba. Both players take the same position in their teams. The winner will be the player who outperforms his rival over the 90-minute game window.

Fanteam has a DFS sports betting system for awarding the scores and determining the winner. Player performances depend on many considerations, including factors such as whether their teams won or lost.

Another rule is to select at least three duels but no more than ten at a time. The prize increases with the number of matchups you select, but so does the risk. If you have six picks, for instance, you double the winnings of five picks.

Season-Long Fantasy Games

There are new tournaments on Fanteam every day, but their sweet spot is the season-long ones. They provide up to 38 weeks of fantasy, fun, and excitement. An example is the 2020/21 season which boasted a guaranteed prize of £1 million while only costing £25 to join.

Fanteam offers prizes for season standings. The top monthly and weekly managers are rewarded too. They also allow a single free transfer each gameweek. You will be set back four fantasy points for additional transfers.

It gets better: fantasy team managers get two Fanteam wildcards to use, each for one half of the Premier League. Punters can make unlimited transfers when they deploy the wildcard.

As for the points system, goalkeepers get 0.5 for every save. Players who commit a foul that costs their team a freekick or converted penalty are deducted 2 points, while midfielders and forwards receive one point for playing through the entire match. Lastly, goalkeepers and defenders receive 4 points for registering a clean sheet.

Player Prices

Each player has a special price, just as you would expect from an actual tournament such as the FPL. The only difference is that Fanteam varies these prices between different gameweeks. For instance, Salah may be worth £25 million against a smaller team such as Shakhtar, but his value drops to about £10 million against stronger teams like Chelsea.

It is all about the advantage you get for that given match or tournament. Although monitoring may be challenging, it allows for fairness in matches where one team may dominate too much.

Fanteam DFS Betting Markets

Fanteam had 279 betting markets in the fantasy games section at the time of writing. Football (soccer) has the most markets on the site, followed by American football. The biggest league offered was the NFL, followed by World Cup Qualifiers.

DFS Promotions

Unlike the traditional sportsbook section, Fanteam has several interesting promotions for its users in the fantasy category. They include:

  • Refer a friend program: also known as RAF, this program rewards you with £20 when your friend wagers an equal amount. Both of you also get a ticket to the weekly monster competition.
  • Welcome bonus: new users get a £20 bonus when they deposit a minimum of £10.
  • Freeroll tickets allow new users to train for free before risking real money. The free trial lasts for the first eight weeks after you sign up.
  • PL Season Game 21/22 Early Bird Offer: the first 500 teams to join the bookie's £1m Fantasy Premier League Season game get a free £15 sportsbook bet.

Fanteam Supported Payment Methods

Fanteam has a "cashier" icon in the menu at the top when logged into your account. Clicking it opens a page that shows your previous transactions and the "withdrawal" and "payment" buttons.

Payment Methods and Limits

You can deposit on Fanteam using at least five methods. Depositing is free of charge regardless of your payment method. There is a minimum deposit of £10 and a maximum of £10,000 that cuts across. Your options are:

  • Neteller
  • PayPal
  • Paysafecard
  • Skrill
  • Trustly

E-wallets such as Skrill, Neteller, and PayPal are usually the easiest and fastest. They are also reliable and facilitate faster withdrawals.

Withdrawal Methods and Limits

You can only withdraw to an account that matches your registered name on Fanteam. The platform verifies your identity before any withdrawals. They are also keen to process withdrawals via the same payment method you used wherever possible.

In Europe, there is a withdrawal limit of 100 transactions a day or a maximum of £50,000. You are also limited to 200 transactions or £200,000 in seven days and 500 transactions or 500,000 in a month. The rest of the world gets 30 transactions a day or £30,000, 50 transactions a week or £100,000, and 150 transactions a month or £200,000.

Mobile App

Fanteam has a free mobile app for iOS devices. Unfortunately, there is none for Android users. No worries, though. The site is mobile-optimised, so users can still enjoy the Fanteam experience on the go through the browsers on their mobile devices.

The iOS app was just launched recently, and Fanteam has not suggested it is the last of their mobile applications. Therefore, the platform may be working on the Android version, too, although that information is not verified.

Fanteam Customer Service

Fanteam's support for customers begins with the automatic language selection according to the region where you are. You can also change the language at the top right corner. There is also an FAQ section that provides insightful knowledge of sports betting, fantasy sports, player prices, and withdrawals.

However, the best support for customers can be found at the bottom-right corner of the site, where punters have access to a live chat feature. Here you can send direct messages to the team and receive a reply. The support team is available 24/7.

Final Verdict

Fanteam is at the top of the game as far as Daily Fantasy Sports go in Europe. Its traditional sportsbook is not bad either, with all the popular sports listed and more occasionally joining the list.

The platform offers a unique balance between the two worlds in a way that you don't find on any other betting site.
