The Titans will go into the next game as the firm favourites. PBKS lost their last 2 games and they will be low on confidence. GT, on the other hand, are in excellent rhythm after their win over the Sunrisers.
Shubman Gill is expected to perform in the next game. Although he is yet to be at his best, the youngster has the class and calibre to stage a strong comeback. In 3 matches, Gill has scored 75 runs at an average of 25 and a strike-rate of 136.36 with a top score of 36.
Liam Livingstone can use the long handle to good effect and is a clean striker of the cricket ball. He is expected to lead the six-hitting charts in the next game. The Englishman tweaked his hamstring in the previous game and there is no update on his fitness as of now. In 3 matches thus far in IPL 2024, Livingstone has racked up 83 runs at a strike-rate of 162.74 with 5 fours and 6 sixes.
Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) will cross swords in the 17th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Thursday, April 4. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the contest.
The Titans, led by Shubman Gill, started with a win over Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians (MI). However, a massive 63-run defeat against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pushed them back to a large extent. But they found their way back after beating Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 7 wickets.
Going into the next game, the Titans will have the upper hand as they have won both their matches in Ahmedabad until now. The likes of Sai Sudarshan, David Miller and others have been in decent form. A win in their next game will help them strengthen their grip in the top four.
The Kings, captained by Shikhar Dhawan, on the other hand, are languishing at the bottom half of the table. They made a brilliant start after beating the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the newly-built venue in Mullanpur. However, back-to-back losses at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have affected them.
Against the Super Giants, they were blown away by young pace sensation Mayank Yadav, who went on to bowl the fastest ball of IPL 2024 at 155.8 km/h. He picked up 3 wickets as the Kings fell short in their run-chase. Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow put on 102 runs for the opening way. Dhawan went on to score 70 runs off 50 balls, but his valiant efforts went in vain.
The Titans and the Kings have faced each other 3 times in the history of the IPL since their first meeting back in 2022. GT won 2 times while PBKS finished on the winning side once. In their previous meeting on April 13, the Titans beat the Kings by 6 wickets at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Mohit Sharma won the Player of the Match award for his figures of 4-0-18-2.
