The Super Kings will go into the game as the favourites without a doubt. Over the years, CSK have dominated the Orange Army and there is no reason why they cannot have the last laugh in Friday’s match.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a stalwart for the Super Kings since he made his debut in the 2020 edition of the T20 league. However, he is yet to be at his very best with the bat in hand. In 3 matches, he has scored 62 runs at an average of 20.66 and a strike-rate of 116.98. Bearing in mind his class, one can expect Gaikwad to get a big score under his belt in the next game.
Heinrich Klaasen has been in stupendous form for the Sunrisers in the tournament as he has been striking the ball cleanly. In 3 matches, he has scored 167 runs at an average of 83.50 and a strike-rate of 219.73. The fact that he has plundered 17 sixes thus far shows how dominating he has been until now.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be up against each other in the 18th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Friday, April 5. The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad will host the contest.
The Super Kings started their campaign after being on top of the points table. After beating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT), they looked in pretty good rhythm. However, they stuttered against Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals (DC) and lost by 20 runs at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
After being asked to chase down a stiff target of 192, the defending champions finished with 171 for 6 in their 20 overs. Matheesha Pathirana was brilliant for them after he finished with figures of 4-0-31-3. Once CSK lost both their openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Rachin Ravindra, in the first 3 overs, they were unable to make a comeback.
The Sunrisers, on the other hand, are hanging in the middle of the table. After losing by 4 runs to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, they beat the Mumbai Indians (MI) 31 runs after racking up the highest ever team total in the IPL.
However, they will be going into the game after losing to Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans by 7 wickets. A lot of their batters got into their 20s, but failed to carry on. Abdul Samad top-scored for them with a knock of 29 off 14 balls. Thereafter, their bowlers were unable to perform as GT chased down the target with 5 deliveries left in their innings.
The Super Kings and the Sunrisers have faced each other 20 times since their first meeting in 2013. CSK have won 15 times while SRH tasted defeat 5 times. In Hyderabad, both teams are locked at 2 wins apiece. In their previous meeting on April 21, 2023, CSK beat SRH by 7 wickets after chasing down 135 with 8 balls to spare.
