Mumbai Indians are yet to open their account in the tournament, but they should be able to win their next game against the Capitals. DC have not been in great form and here lies the chance for the Mumbai based team to register their maiden win in the championship.
David Warner has been the standout batter for the Capitals in the tournament. In four games, he has scored 148 runs at an average of 37 and a strike-rate of 143.68 with a top score of 52 to his name. Against KKR, Warner got off to a brisk start after scoring 18 runs off 13 balls before Mitchell Starc accounted for his wicket.
Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will lock horns in the 20th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Sunday, April 7. The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will host the contest.
MI, led by Hardik Pandya, have got off to a poor start in the tournament. They have all three matches in the tournament and are languishing at the bottom of the table with a net run rate of -1.423. They will go into the game after losing to Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals (RR).
After being put in to bat first, MI found themselves in all sorts of trouble after being reduced to 20 for 4 in 3.3 overs. Although Tilak Varma and Hardik put on 56 runs for the fifth wicket, Mumbai were never able to recover from the early blows.
MI got the Royals to 48 for 3 in 6.3 overs, but Riyan Parag put his head down and helped his team win with 27 balls to spare. Parag scored an unbeaten 54 off 39 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes.
The Capitals got off to a rough start after losing to Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Royals before recording their first win over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, a massive 106-run loss at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday again pushed them back.
The Knights put up a huge score of 272 for 7 in 20 overs. Anrich Nortje picked up 3 wickets, but leaked 59 runs in 4 overs. Thereafter, DC were bowled out for 166 in 17.2 overs. Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs scored 55 and 54 respectively, their efforts were not enough for the Capitals to get even close to KKR’s score.
The Capitals and Mumbai have faced each other 33 times in the IPL since their first meeting back in 2008. MI have won 18 times while DC finished on the winning side 15 times.
At the Wankhede Stadium, the record is 6-3 in favour of the Capitals. In their previous meeting on April 11, 2023, MI beat DC by 6 wickets in a thriller after chasing down 173 on the back of Rohit Sharma’s 65.
