Kolkata Knight Riders will go into their next game against the Super Giants as the favourites, although not by a big margin. But they will hold the psychological advantage, having beaten them once earlier in the tournament.
Varun Chakravarthy has been amongst the standout bowlers in the tournament for the Knight Riders. In 10 matches, he has picked up 13 wickets at an economy rate of 8.64. He had figures of 4-0-22-2 against MI in the previous game and that should give him a lot of confidence. He is expected to be the standout bowler even in the next game.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be up against each other in the 54th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Sunday, May 5. The Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow will host the contest.
The Super Giants, led by KL Rahul, still have some distance to travel if they are to make their way through to the playoffs. With 12 points and a net run rate of +0.0945 thanks to wins in 5 out of 10 matches, LSG have had a decent run until now in the tournament.
They will go into the match after a morale-boosting win over Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians (MI) in Lucknow. The game went right down to the wire, but LSG chased down a target of 145 with 4 balls to spare. Marcus Stoinis won the Player of the Match award after he scored 62 runs off 45 balls.
There are doubts over Mayank Yadav’s participation in the next game. After returning against MI following a long injury layoff, the speedster walked off the park midway through his last over.
The Knight Riders, on the other hand, will be high on confidence after beating Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians (MI) by 24 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. Venkatesh Iyer won the Player of the Match award after he scored 70 runs. Mitchell Starc also returned to form after he picked up 4 wickets, including 3 in a single over.
The Knights and the Super Giants have faced each other 4 times since they first met in 2022. LSG have a 3-1 lead over their opponents. However, it is the Knights, who beat the Super Giants by 8 wickets in their previous meeting on April 14, 2024 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
After being put in to bat first, LSG scored 161 for the loss of 7 wickets. Nicholas Pooran was their standout batter after he scored 45 runs off 32 balls. Mitchell Starc picked up 3 wickets. Thereafter, the Knights roped home with 26 balls to spare on the back of Phil Salt’s unbeaten 89-run knock.
