Mumbai Indians are expected to win their next game against the Sunrisers. Although they are all but out of the competition, they will be looking to go all guns blazing and be party spoilers from here on.
Travis Head has simply been outstanding for the Sunrisers at the top of the order. The left-handed batter has scored 396 runs from 9 games at an average of 44 and a strike-rate of 194.11 with a hundred and 3 fifties to his name. If he gets going at the top, MI bowlers could end up chasing leather.
Heinrich Klaasen has been the bedrock of the SRH batting unit in their middle order. In 10 games thus far, he has scored 337 runs at an average of 48.14 and a strike-rate of 189.32 with 3 fifties and a top score of 80 not out. Having hit 31 sixes until now, he is expected to lead the six-hitting charts even in the next encounter.
Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will face each other in the 55th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Monday, May 6 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The Sunrisers are in a healthy position in the points table, but need a couple of more wins to cement their berth in the playoffs. The Orange Army currently have 12 points and a net run rate of +0.072 courtesy of wins in 6 out of 10 matches in the tournament.
They will go into their next game after beating Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 1 run on Thursday. Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the Player of the Match award after he picked up 3 crucial wickets, albeit he conceded 41 runs in his quota of four overs. Travis Head and Nitish Reddy scored 58 and 76 for the Sunrisers.
MI, on the other hand, are in all sorts of strife and need something very special to advance to the playoffs. If they lose one more game, they will officially be knocked out of the competition. MI lost to Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 24 runs in their previous match at the Wankhede Stadium.
Suryakumar Yadav scored a brisk half-century, but his knock was not enough for MI to chase down a target of 170. Jasprit Bumrah and Nuwan Thushara picked up 3 wickets apiece.
MI and SRH have locked horns with each other 22 times since they first met in 2013. Mumbai are leading the Sunrisers 12-10 on the head-to-head count. At the Wankhede Stadium, MI have won 5 out of 7 matches against their opponent from Hyderabad.
In their previous meeting, SRH beat MI by 31 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. It was a match where 523 were scored. The Sunrisers racked up a humongous score of 277 for the loss of 3 wickets on the back of fifties from Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen.
MI batted well, but could only get themselves up to 246 for 5. Tilak Varma scored 64 off 34, but his knock went in vain.
