The Knight Riders, led by Shreyas Iyer, are already through to the playoffs. The 2-time champions booked their playoffs berth after beating Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians (MI) by 18 runs on Saturday at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
After being asked to bat first in a match, curtailed to 16 overs, KKR scored 157 for the loss of 7 wickets. Venkatesh Iyer was their top-scorer after he made 42 runs off 21 balls. Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh made 33, 24 and 20 respectively.
Thereafter, MI restricted GT to 139 for 8. Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy and Russell accounted for 2 scalps apiece. Varun won the Player of the Match award.
The Titans, on the other hand, have had a disastrous campaign until now in the tournament. With 10 points and a net run rate of -1.063, they need a miracle to progress to the next round. GT, however, will be high on confidence after beating Chennai Super Kings at home. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan scored twin hundreds to keep GT alive in the championship.
GT and KKR have met each other 3 times since their first meeting back in 2022. The Titans are leading the Knights 2-1. In their previous meeting on April 29, 2023, GT beat KKR by 7 wickets at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
After being put in to bat first, the Knights scored 179 for 7. Rahmanullah Gurbaz starred for them after he scored 81 runs off 39 balls with 5 fours and 7 sixes. Mohammed Shami picked up 3 wickets while Josh Little and Noor Ahmad accounted for 2 scalps apiece.
The Titans chased down the target with 13 balls left in their innings. Vijay Shankar played a brisk knock of 51 off 24 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes. David Miller also chipped in with an unbeaten 32-run knock.
